Welcome to the Department of Theoretical Physics

In Theoretical Physics we build mathematical models and theories describing the physical reality. Using approximations and simplifications, a complex phenomenon can be reduced, thus revealing the relevant underlying mechanisms. To improve our models we study, both analytically and numerically, their predictions and compare them to experimental observations.

The research at the department is divided into two different groups. The High Energy Physics division develops models for the smallest constituents in nature with the emphasis on the colour-interaction between quarks and gluons. The Computational Biology and Biological Physics division develops models of proteins and their interaction with other proteins, genes and cells.
